Description
I had a blast altering (can you kit bash trees??) the Heki trees.
The trees all started out so shiny and uniform, which is so boring. Each tree was clipped randomly from top to bottom as well as all around. Glue was smeared all over the branches of the tree with my fingers making sure I got the glue deep inside the tree. Once the tree was wet, but not dripping, with glue, I rolled it in a mix of green colours of Woodland Scenics Fine Turf making sure the glue was covered with turf.
While the glue dried (about an hour), I made a custom colour of paint from my stash of water-based acrylic craft paint. Two types of medium green were mixed well with black paint. Again, with my index finger and thumb, I applied the paint evenly over the turf covered trees which makes the needles look dark green. The light green trees did not have any paint applied to them and have only the Fine Turf for texture.
I think they turned out quite well, though I do see a problem with the tops of a few of them being too thick. I could only see how thick those tree tops were in the photo but not so easily in real life.

- Very nice.

:-)0
- Wow, thank you, everyone, for the compliments :-) I'm going to make a few rocky out croppings tomorrow with Hydrocal Light. I don't have places to put them yet, but at least I'll have experience making them.

Terry, I'm not worried about my tank loco. You're too far away to steal it ;-)

bumbuko, don't worry about not liking the Starlight Express. To tell the truth, I'm not into diesel or electric trains :-)

Jim, I actually like getting my fingers messy with the glue and paint. With a spray bottle, I'd have to take care not to get glue everywhere. When I use my fingers, the paint and glue only end up on me - and the trees. Both paint and glue are washable, plus I have the kitchen sink right next to my work bench
I might end up using a spray bottle and glue for other areas of my diorama, but my diorama is so small I might just use brushes and a dropper of some sort (for gluing ballast) instead.
0 - Good little forest you have sprouting there. Nice job Beverly.;-)0
- Very nice trees indeed
I don't go much for the Starlight Express thing in front ;-) , but that's just me being grumpy old git
Trees are usually what makes or brakes the layout, and yours are really excellent !
0 - You have done excellent, better then my first trees and even my last ones. I love that engine, don't turn your back. hehe Great job, and yes pictures show every flaw.0
