- Very funny Fred:-)0
- First off Terry- use something smaller than a tree falling chain saw ;-)0
- Thanks Moo- more like persistance0
- Fred, excellent, there is no end to the many ways you amaze me. I don't think I would have even considered cutting it from a solid block. Nice effort and effect. :-)0
- Fred, you have skills.0
- Continued... So I got several colored brochures of the Z Santa Fe....BCC...(this was Before the availability of Colored Copiers)- cut a shape out of wood that reasonably (at the time) looked like a switcher, did a little shaping and glued the paper cut-outs onto the wooden "engine". From a distance it looked OK and it could be used as a static model on an unused siding, or coming out of a repair shed or abandoned tunnel. Obviously not frontline gear- but serviceable behind lots of bushes etc.
I remember a time when I used cardboard 1-D cutouts to represent something trackside--those were my earliest days in trains- Marx 027..
Those new to Z can expand their RR Empire in similar fashion- until the funds appear to replace it with lazer cut kits-and brass beauties! From a distance--maybe more than 3 feet- you create an illusion. Some models take eons of hours to complete- others are-"Slam Bam". Imagination is everything... :-)0
- At the dawn of Z...... Marklin advertized in National Geographic Magazine.... the worlds smallest scale... by showing that a Z scale engine could fit inside a walnut. That started it!! Much to the shagrin of my lady ;-).
Marklin also had brochures showing the Santa Fe engine and other available cars in FULL Size Z and in color. There was not much "out there" in Z around 1980--about 5 solid cast American buildings- And if you bought the NA Z set- Marklin would send you-free- a gondola!!
So I started making Z stuff from scratch-WOOD actually.0
